When Darla first approached me for an assessment, I was a bit confused. How can I help someone who’s already fit? What can I bring to the table to improve her physique further? Well as it turns out, quite a lot. If you are to compare Darla’s before and after photos, you would see as to how much her sides got tapered off not to mention her midsection got leaner as evident in the side view photo.

Most people would focus on ab exercises and working out when we talk about leaning up, but the thing here is, Darla never did a single crunch nor leg raise. All she did was to follow our nutrition plan as well as do planks as part of our 3x a week exercise routine. YES, you read that right, we only workout 3x a week and I don’t let my clients do crunches or leg raises. I’d love to talk more as to why these exercises are primitive but it’s best discussed in a different article altogether.

If your goal is to show your abs, crunches and leg raises should be the least of your priorities. Our abs show up when our body fat percentage is low enough to allow them to “pop out”. While crunches and leg raises may have their uses during the “polishing” phase, it most likely won’t have any effect on someone who fail to see a developed midsection. Your focus should be redirected in your nutrition as well as getting enough recovery time, meaning DO NOT WORKOUT EVERYDAY.

Darla here is probably the fittest 40 year old I’ve ever known and handled. Her abs are better than most clients under my program, women and men alike(except for Josh, since he’s genetically gifted).
